The nationwide and international steel building supplier LLENTAB has been acting as a reliable partner within the fish industry over the last 30 years and has concluded more than 25 projects.
The latest project up far north in Trøndelag, just at the foot of the mountain Heilhornet, an impressive land-based juvenile fish hatchery with state-of-the-art RAS technology has been built. With an area about 13,000 square meters, Svaberget Smolt will produce around 2,000 tonnes of smolt a year. With the RAS technology, the hatchery will recycle 99.9% of the water that circulates in the facility. The building is scheduled to be completed in January 2022, the process has already started by putting in the spawn of fish and the production of smolt has started in parts of the building.
After a successful collaboration with the contractor, GL-bygg in the project LLENTAB together with GL-Bygg decided to join forces and enter into a partnership. – “We want to strengthen our expertise towards the aquaculture industry. Our target is to give the customer a partner who can take care of the entire construction process – from idea to finished building”, the new partners say.

This was the first project we were collaborating in. Through the process, we become well known, learned a lot about and from each other, and in the end strengthen each other in future projects.
GL-Bygg, as a general contractor, managed the entire process in close collaboration with the customer Sinkaberg Hansen, the process supplier AKVAGroup Landbased and LLENTAB. Through this project GL-Bygg and LLENTAB have built up unique expertise to give future customers a sense of security, not having to think about purely construction issues.
“We will give them a complete offer where we ensure that the puzzle is put in the right order so that the process plants and necessary production equipment get optimal conditions during the construction phase and in the future operation“, says general manager of GL-Bygg Arne Magne Galguften and CEO of LLENTAB Norway Thomas Re Johnsen.
Thomas Re Johnsen, CEO at LLENTAB Norway (left) and General manager of GL-Bygg Arne Magne Galguften, have now initiated a partnership to sharpen the competence towards the Blue Sector.
“We aim to become a partner for the aquaculture industry. By understanding the interdisciplinary processes, we can contribute to increase the added value for the customer – in addition to being a contractor who ensures that the building arrives on time according to the customer needs and that all actors within the project work well together”, Galguften adds.
Coming back to Svaberget smolt building it will be large volumes that will be handled in the land-based fish hatchery. There will be a total of 33 fish tanks in different sizes plus four buffer fish tanks with an impressive total volume of 13,649 cubic meters and the plant will have a maximum limit for standing biomass of 840 tonnes. AKVAgroup Landbased has the contract and is responsible for the process plant, where installation and assembly are handled by Landbased Norway (with people from the former Plastsveis AS based in Sømna) and Landbased’s Danish department.
There are complex technology and a great number of pipes installed into a facility like this. “Our job as a general contractor is to ensure an optimal solution to adapt the building to the process equipment and to take care of all government requirements for the building and technical facilities. We create a “package” that takes care of all building and technical needs, creates the best conditions for a safe and good production, which in turn contributes to a safe working environment and gives added value for the developers and users for many years to come”, Johnsen points out.
LLENTAB and GL-Bygg can deliver a turnkey contract, including the first phase of the interactive initial design, detailed design, and execution of all necessary structural and technical work. All to get the most optimized building possible adapted to the process technical solutions that are required. Every step in the production chain is important for the finished result.
“With the customer in focus we will ensure to give the customer security by delivering expertise and at the same time assure a predictable and good collaboration”, both partners conclude.
